Los Angeles-based artist Paul McCarthy is one of today’s leading video art practitioners. Painter, first shown at the 12th Biennale of Sydney combined with an installation and a film, features McCarthy acting out an exaggerated caricature of an abstract expressionist painter. The process of “painting” is radicalized, rendered perverse and ridiculed in the viewers’ eyes.
