The “surface coverage” of the page is organized in a routine of a line proceeding in a predetermined manner, a routine of a somewhat nondescript line. Differences and nuances appear in the drawing of the line as a result of the manual action, yet they are not charged with meaning and do not produce a drawing “event”, but are rather absorbed in the multiplicity. The accumulative surface remains almost indifferent, so that gesture annuls itself and presented as an empty cliché of ornamentation.

A smile, an emoticon, a gesture of an emotion that had become a commonly used icon, is mounted alongside the drawing. The exact meaning given to the “smile” in each use varies and depends on the correspondence accompanying it, on the context, rather than on its visual appearance – meaning, its font or its size.
