Latent Heat — Dor Zlekha Levy and Aviad Zinemanas | Sound Project in the Garden
The Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art invites the public—families, children, and adults—to rediscover the museum’s sculpture garden, located in the very heart of Herzliya as an integral part of the public sphere.
The sculpture garden offers diverse audiences a heartening and enriching encounter with visual art through text panels, images, audio readings, a sound project, and an experiential family activity led by MUZA – the educational wing of the museum (via QR scanning).
The visit is accompanied by an original sound project, Latent Heat, which breathes life into the silent sculptures through sound. Created by Dor Zlekha Levy and Aviad Zinemanas, the project offers a dialogue with selected sculptures through five compositions, each responding to one of the works:
Blocked Well with an Iron Casing and Turret; and Pond with Fish Arc – by Yaacov Dorchin; Resting Female Warrior – by Zvi Lachman; Between Gravel and the Golden Ratio, Between Temple and Shipyard – by Igael Tumarkin; and Obelisk – by Zipora Gendler.
Zlekha Levy comes from the field of multidisciplinary art, while Zinemanas comes from the world of music. Their creative process began with long wanderings through the garden, searching for a voice within the silent sculptures. They observed and listened, lingered in the space, and discovered the sounds emerging from the sculptures and their surroundings.
The process continued with in‑depth research into the artists’ creative methods and interpretations, in ongoing dialogue with the sculptors who are still alive and in tribute to those who are no longer with us.
Zlekha Levy and Zinemanas offer a new reading of the sculptures—an autonomous artistic act in its own right. The project’s title, Latent Heat, hints at revealing the energy stored within the sculptures and uncovering the hidden secret of the material, released and expressed through sound.
