Kaiss’s delicate installation invites visitors to immerse in an aesthetic as well as spiritual experience. As visitors walk into this abstract work and observe it from different angles, they are able to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the arabesque designs. Moreover, they are encouraged to follow its lines and experience how they flow back on themselves, without letting their eyes stop to focus any one single element. The dynamic and rhythmical effect of the arabesque design surrounds them from all sides as they experience how archaic motifs are reduced to an abstract formula stripped of any hierarchical value. This is consistent with the Islamic notion of reducing all things to a single unity ruled by a single entity. Arabesque is a contemporary and personal interpretation of the harmonious fusion between the aesthetic and spiritual components of this traditional Islamic theme.
