The Three Philosophers, 2001, Video installation, colour, 60:00 min

Michael Blum’s installation consists of three video sequences, which were inspired by a painting attributed to Giorgione and titled The Three Philosophers, which is in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. This painting was executed during the first years of the 16th century, and its meaning remains unclear. One possible interpretation is that the three figures represent three stages in the evolution of human thought: the Middle Ages, the Muslim Golden Age and the Renaissance.
