In Shachaf Yaron’s understated video work, the viewer shares the perspective of a soon-to-be mother awaiting her child’s birth. The woman examines her pregnant belly with an intimate, quiet gaze. Are she and her child a single entity or two separate bodies? The fetus kicks, as if attempting to break out into the world. These are the most primal “body gestures,” testifying to the existence of a living creature.
