Martin Borowski creates large scale, semi-realist paintings that examine the quality of various visual motifs. His works combine intimate internal spaces with estranged external spaces that appear, at first glance, to be part of a longstanding tradition. Sustained observation, however, reveals their unique combination of Romanticism and estrangement. Borowski’s works are based on images manipulated by means of photography and Photoshop – tools used by the artist to ask classical questions concerning art. By means of this process, Borowski leaves only the essential details, and thus focuses and distills the painting.
