Rony Shvide Hazan goes out to shoot in areas which are normally closed to visitors because they serve as training grounds for the IDF. These arrays of wide views combine the beauty of the wilderness with the scars of the military exercises. The landscapes which the artist captures with her analog camera range from the arid Negev desert to the mountainous Golan Heights. There is a sad and lonely quality to them, and the added awareness of the emotionally-charged military history in the background makes this more than just another series of landscape photographs. In a very quiet and understated way, Shvide Hazan’s works take on political and historical connotations.
