Filmessay, Photos, 2005

Filmassay is the story of Istanbul as told by the German artist and critic, Stefan Roemer. The assay raises questions about how to approach a photography project in a foreign city, how to understand its image, and not operate in the service of a tourist cliché industry. The artist stands at a loss in his attempt to find an answer, and he continues to drift back and forth following visual cues he encounters.
