Wang Ya-Hui’s poetic methods transcend desolation and transform waste into valuables. A work for a building plot: make a flower arrangement for me is a community workshop and event which encourages city dwellers to consider urban development and the facts of living. The artist found an empty lot near where she frequently walked, which was condemned so as to make possible the construction of a high-rise tower. Though uncultivated and uncared for, this temporarily neglected piece of land was filled with life and various kinds of flowers, plants, birds and insects. With the idea to collect the grasses and flowers from this place and cultivate them into potted plants which might serve as memory for the future, the result of Wang’s experience has been a series of community workshops in Taipei.
